The U.S. has an expansive offshore wind energy resource. This industry will continue to take off in the years ahead, bringing with it a new and prosperous American industry.
The growing offshore wind farm market in the United States lacks a WTG transportation model that reduces costs, minimizes risk and liability, and increases efficiency. Currently, there is no Jones Act compliant vessel that can transport all WTG components on the same vessel in a single trip
GSL’s vessel, "The Eleanor," has approval in principle from ABS and can be used to constantly feed all the components of a wind tower to the WTIV in a single trip, reducing transportation time and increasing WTIV utilization.
By 2030, the industry could create 83,000 jobs in the U.S. and deliver large amounts of clean and reliable energy to our country’s largest cities.
By 2024, U.S. offshore installed wind capacity will grow from 30 MW to 5,000 MW.
The U.S. has an expansive offshore wind energy resource with the potential of generating more than 2,000 gigawatts (GW), nearly double our nation’s current electricity use.
Wind Energy Areas
Currently, U.S. waters are home to 41 BOEM wind energy areas.
There are currently 15 active commercial leases for offshore wind farm development in the U.S., that if fully built, could support approximately 25 gigawatts of offshore wind capacity.
Green Shipping Line is offering an offshore wind farm supply vessel named “The Eleanor” to support the United States’ growing offshore wind farm market which has the capacity of generating double our nation’s current electricity use. The Eleanor has undergone extensive testing with Voith propulsion to determine its ability to carry offshore wind farm equipment safely, while minimizing roll and maximizing stability.
The multi-purpose design and dimensions allow for the transportation of all WTG components on the same vessel in a single trip
Increases vessel stability and minimizes Wind Turbine Installation Vessel liability.
This innovative computer system locks the vessel and maintains its position and heading.
