The Benefits
By building the first green fleet of Jones Act coastal/river container ships, GSL will save future generations from the effects of a severe infrastructure crisis. Our model will create jobs, alleviate gridlock, and reduce pollution among many other benefits.
Economic Stimulus
An economic stimulus of $325 million in estimated annual business activity generation.
Greener Transportation
Decrease carbon emissions by 50% compared to trucks and 20% compared to trains. Fewer harmful emissions will help save our planet from pollution.
Job Creation
2,200 estimated jobs provided annually in the U.S. for direct/indirect vessel build & operation.
Big Savings
While the interstate highway system costs more than $70 billion to maintain annually (2014 estimate), and $4.6 trillion to ultimately fix, the marine highway costs nothing to build and little to maintain.
Tax Breaks
Those participating in this model would reap the benefits of multiple tax breaks and incentives such as coastwise trade, depreciation, Capital Construction Fund, Foreign Income Tonnage Tax Exemption, the Foreign Financing Exemption and creation of carbon emission tax credits. Moreover, environmentally conscious companies reap Wall Street benefits and are able to take advantage of the future sale of carbon credits.
Increased Operational Efficiency
By switching to a modernized marine transportation system, GSL will help alleviate the disruption of transportation that is inevitable by increasing the efficiency for the fulfillment of goods at all points of sale.
